J. Horsfall Turner is a renowned historian, writing many books on the history of various places in the Halifax area and also editing together the Northowram Registers, The History of Brighouse and others.
Navigation of all of the books on this CD rom is enhanced by the use of "Active Links" on all the index and contents pages.
The History of Halifax covers the history of the parish from pre-Roman times to the 1880s. It includes information about the Gibbet law, and also the townships within the parish etc. There are additionally a few plates, including a plan of the town of Halifax.
The Families and Worthies of Halifax is a Biographical and Genealogical history of the parish of Halifax.
The Halifax Guardian's Almanac 1908 includes photographs and information on people and places and happenings for the year 1908. There are lots of names of individuals, include lists of those on the council etc. Unfortunately there is no real index to this book.

This comprehensive CD of several books includes John Crabtree's Halifax, J. Horsfall Turner's Halifax Worthies, and The Halifax Guardian's Almanac, with Maps, and information on the Wapentakes and the three Yorkshire Ridings.
It is a must for everyone with or without Halifax Connections
It tells of surrounding villages as well as places further a field. Throughout it mentions many people by name, and is packed with genealogical information on prominent local families, making it a rich source of very useful material, with extracts of Wills and Pedigree's and a section on Gibbet Law. It is packed full with, photos, old advertisements, and articles, and tells many local tales. It is a glimpse into our ancestors' past.
