Letter from Princes Charles to Betty's

ST.JAMES'S PALACE
LONDON SW1A 1BS

From the deputy Private Secretary to HRH The Prince of Wales

The Prince of Wales has asked me to thank you most warmly for all that you
did to give him such a happy visit to Betty's last week. His Royal Highness enjoyed
himself more than you will ever know and it is a visit that will live long in his
memory.

His Royal Highness could not have been more impressed by the quality of the
craftsmanship, the attention to detail, the remarkably efficient and friendly service and
the very happy atmosphere which seems to envelope Betty's. It is little wonder that
you are such a great Yorkshire and British institution and that you have won so many
awards.

The Prince of Wales has never before tasted a cup of tea so delicious, nor seen
such an array of sandwiches and cakes. But above all, His Royal Highness was
delighted to have met so many of your staff although he was, of course, sorry not to
meet the other 750! However, he hopes that you will pass on to them his admiration
for all that they do.

The Prince of Wales was so pleased to have been able to leave with some
Yorkshire Fat Rascals, which I can assure you, have been put to the best possible use!

The Prince of Wales has asked me to send you and Lesley his warmest good
wishes and heartfelt thanks for a day which he will never forget. If I may, I should
like to add my own. You were so marvellous at putting up with me and my team
and I just hope that you think it was worthwhile in the end! Thank you too, for that
chocolate chicken which was, without doubt, the most delicious that I have ever
tasted!

Miss Elizabeth Buchanan
